hAtom and IE8’s “WebSlices”

Microsoft have gone public with details of the first beta of IE8 at their Mix conference.

One feature that caught me eye is “WebSlices” which Microsoft describes as

a new feature for websites to connect to their users by subscribing to content directly within a webpage. WebSlices behave just like feeds where clients can subscribe to get updates and notify the user of changes

.

Why they interest me is that they use the hAtom format to achieve this (with one controversial change)

As always, exciting to see microformats in new and interesting places - particularly in the UI of the most widely used browser on the web.
